The waist on your favorite jeans has betrayed you. Belly Fat!
That feeling of despair; the feeling that somehow there was a conspiracy against you and now your belly fat can join in with the name calling.
–Spare Tire, muffin top, beer belly and “OMG-where-the-heck-did-this-come-from-this-can-not-be-my-gut.”
–Yes, I have been there and to tell the truth, I am at this point right now.
Belly fat seems to just appear as I look in the mirror.
How does this happen?
There are many reasons why this has happened:
age, diet, stress and the list goes on, but it does not change the fact that is unhealthy for the body and I think for the mind also.
In the body, fat burning occurs:
1) Fat that is released from a cell
2) Fat traveling to another cell
3) Fat getting into that cell and being burned
With all the power on my body, how do I convince fat to lay off my gut?
Hormones play a huge part when it comes to the body storing fat.
• Hormones that help with the Storing of fat
– Insulin, Cortisol, ASP, GIP, Ghrelin
– Estrogen & progesterone
• Hormones that help with the Burning fat
- Cortisol, testosterone, HGH, thyroid, catecholamines, glucagon
– Estrogen & progesterone
The dreaded belly fat Storage is related to Insulin & Cortisol
Both stimulate LPL
Both cause insulin resistance in high amounts
Insulin magnifies cortisol’s LPL activity
Insulin blunts cortisol’s HSL activity
Insulin resistance = hunger
Excess cortisol= cravings
Insulin & cortisol together = blood sugar issues
Storage of fat around middle
Types of belly fat and how they are different
– more blood flow
- more beta receptors

– diet is key
How to get rid of it?
Much of the fat in the stomach area lies directly under the skin. This is called subcutaneous fat and is not as hazardous to your health. Fat that is harmful is the unseen fat around your organs, known as visceral abdominal fat.
Visceral fat is linked to diabetes and heart disease. If you want to get rid of visceral fat and lower your risk for heart disease and diabetes, start with cutting down on your calories and getting more exercise.
Although there is not a magic potion available, concentrating on the whole body health will get rid of body fat.
